Manchester City’s season has hit a bad spell at a crucial moment of the campaign.
Pep Guardiola’s side suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash on Wednesday night.
Federico Valverde produced a stunning performance at the Santiago Bernabeu, scoring a first-half hat-trick that leaves City facing a huge challenge in the return leg.
The defeat was another setback during what has been a demanding period for City.
Domestically, Manchester City currently sit second in the Premier League, trailing league leaders Arsenal by seven points.
However, Guardiola’s side still have a game in hand in the title race.
Before their European setback in Madrid, City had also been building towards the Carabao Cup final against Arsenal.
But while Guardiola’s team attempt to steady themselves on the pitch, developments away from the field have sparked fresh speculation surrounding one of their attacking stars.
Manchester City star open to shock move
According to TeamTalk, Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku is expected to hold talks with the club this summer amid interest from Atletico Madrid.
The report claims the Belgian international wants assurances over his role at the Etihad Stadium.
Having recently signed Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth, playing time has been limited
Doku is currently under contract with Manchester City until 2028, but discussions over his future could take place during the upcoming transfer window.
Atletico Madrid are reportedly monitoring the situation closely and could explore a potential move if uncertainty over the winger’s role continues.
For Manchester City, however, the immediate focus remains on results.
With a Premier League title race still alive and a Champions League comeback to attempt, Guardiola will be hoping his squad can respond quickly to their recent setbacks.
