Managing at the top level is not something you simply walk away from.

The pressure is constant.

And even after stepping aside, the pull of football rarely disappears completely.

For some, retirement sticks.

For others, it never quite lasts.

Ex-Premier League manager comes out of retirement for the sixth time

According to The Sun, Dick Advocaat has now come out of retirement for a sixth time.

The former Netherlands manger has taken on a new role, despite only recently stepping away from the game.

Advocaat had only just left his position as Curacao boss, with many believing it would finally mark the end of his long and decorated career.

Instead, he is back again.

This time, in a different capacity.

The report states that Advocaat has taken up an advisory role at Feyenoord.

He will work closely with Premier League legend and manager, Robin van Persie.

The two have known each other for the best part of two decades.

That familiarity would be vital, for a side looking to clinch Champions League football.

This is far from new territory for the 78-year-old.

Advocaat has stepped away from football multiple times over the past 15 years, only to return again and again.

Each time, the same pattern repeats itself; a departure followed by another opportunity.

And another comeback.

Before this latest return, he had achieved something significant.

His spell with Curacao saw the national team reach the World Cup for the first time in their history.

For Feyenoord, it’s a gain.

However, for football, it’s familiar.

And for Advocaat, it is simply another chapter in a career that refuses to close.
