Liverpool now have a plan B in place in case Ibrahima Konate rejects a contract extension and leaves for free after his contract expires at the end of June.
The Reds have been trying to agree on a new deal with the Frenchman for over a year now. However, both sides are yet to reach an agreement.
However, recent reports suggest that Liverpool may reach an agreement with Konate. However, in case it doesn’t happen, the Reds know what they will do next.
Last summer, Liverpool invested heavily in their squad, breaking the British transfer record twice. They spent around £450 million last summer.
The optimism was high because of their Premier League triumph last season under Arne Slot. Nobody expected the Dutchman to lift the title in his first season.
However, this season, things have been disappointing. The Reds are fighting for a top 4 finish. Also, they suffered humiliation at the hands of Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-final.
As a result, Arne Slot’s future at Liverpool is uncertain, and the latest odds also reveal that. Now, the Reds are also facing issues with renewing Konate’s contract.
Now, SkySports Germany has revealed that Liverpool has a buyback on Jarell Quansah’s contract, which will be valid till the end of May.
The Reds have not shown any intent on exercising that €80 million clause. However, if Konate doesn’t renew his contract, Liverpool may exercise this clause.
They sold Quansah for a £30 million fee upfront last summer. So far, he has impressed during his stay in Germany.
So, Liverpool’s plan B is now clear. If Konate doesn’t extend his stay, they might bring Quansah back.
🚨🆕 Liverpool still have the option to activate a buy-back clause for Jarell #Quansah until the end of May, set at €80 million.
So far, however, Leverkusen have received no indication – neither from the player nor from Liverpool. #LFC‘s current focus is on extending Ibrahima… pic.twitter.com/nCYRJ8nsAB
