Some transfer windows are defined by one moment that changes everything.

With Hugo Ekitike getting injured in Liverpool’s 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, their squad suddenly looks thin.

As the duration of his injury’s expected to be about 9 months, Liverpool have already found their replacement.

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool have formally expressed their interest in signing Bazoumana Toure from Hoffenheim this summer.

The 20-year-old has been described in German football circles as a “chaos-maker who combines speed with technique.”

Toure has three goals and seven assists in 25 Bundesliga appearances this season.

That kind of output, at that age, in one of Europe’s most demanding leagues, doesn’t go unnoticed for long.

Sporting director Andreas Schicker has confirmed the club are open to selling, but only for a fee that would surpass their current record sale, Joelinton’s £38 million move to Newcastle United back in 2019.

Toure’s contract runs until 2029 and contains no release clause, which means Hoffenheim hold every card in negotiations.

They aren’t in a rush, and they aren’t going to be pushed into anything below their valuation.

That creates a straightforward challenge for Liverpool.

They want the player, the player’s club want a record fee, and there’s no shortcut available to bypass that conversation.

Liverpool had previously registered interest earlier this month, and they’ve taken the decisive first step by making things official.

Whether that early commitment gives them an advantage as the summer window approaches remains to be seen.

What’s already clear is that this one won’t come cheap, and it won’t be straightforward.

But for a club looking to maintain their standards at the top of the Premier League, a player of Toure’s profile is exactly the kind of signing that makes sense right now.
