Some stories feel too big to be true.
And then you look at the circumstances surrounding them.
Real Madrid are having one of the most difficult seasons in recent memory.
Knocked out of the Champions League. A second consecutive season without a major trophy.
Florentino Perez labelling the campaign an “intolerable failure” in the dressing room afterwards.
Something is about to change at the Bernabeu.
And the name gaining the most traction might be the last one many people expected.
Mourinho’s sensational Real Madrid return gathers serious momentum
According to Record, the possibility of Jose Mourinho returning to Real Madrid is very much alive, with the Portuguese manager’s name now being actively discussed in Florentino Perez’s office as the club searches for a new direction.
Crucially, the report indicates that movement could come within days.
A meeting between the Madrid hierarchy and current manager Alvaro Arbeloa is scheduled for next week.
The outcome of that meeting is expected to be no surprise to anyone.
Arbeloa, who stepped in as an emergency solution following Xabi Alonso’s resignation after the Spanish Super Cup loss in January, is not expected to continue as first-team head coach beyond this season.
His exit would clear the path for a new appointment.
And right now, Mourinho’s name is the one with the most momentum behind it inside the club.
‘The Special One’ spent three years at the Bernabeu between 2010 and 2013, winning La Liga in record-breaking fashion.
He also still retains significant support among a section of the fanbase and within the club hierarchy.
Currently managing Benfica, where he signed a contract until 2027, Mourinho’s deal is reported to contain a clause that would allow a move to Real Madrid.
There’s no official contact yet, and no direct approach has been made.
However, the interest is described as mutual.
