Gary Neville has found himself at the centre of a disturbing incident after a video surfaced online showing him being abused in public.
The former Manchester United defender was walking on the street alongside a woman when the situation escalated unexpectedly.
The clip on social media captures the moment a man approaches and begins shouting abuse. The video starts with the individual saying: “Is that Gary Neville? W***er.”
Neville immediately reacts and turns around, asking: “What?”
However, the situation quickly worsens. The man continues, shouting: “Wer, wer, that’s what you are. A fing w***er.”
At that point, Neville appears to notice that he is being filmed. Instead of stopping, the aggressor continues his rant.
He says: “Listen, I’m filming because you’re a fing wer. You’ve got f*** all to know about the working class man you have.
“Even your own fans have turned against you, because you’re a f*ing p**.”
The video was later posted on X, where one user described the incident as “delightful.” That reaction sparked further responses, particularly from those close to Neville.
His sister, Tracey Neville, responded publicly. She said:
“Situations like these are truly scary and I can assure you they are not delightful.”
She also added crying and heartbroken emojis, showing her concern over what had happened.
Meanwhile, former striker John Hartson also came out in support of Neville. Posting on social media, he criticised the behaviour strongly. He wrote:
“What does this Moron think he is achieving..
“Gary with one of his family and some t** is abusing him in public.. if you feel like you want to abuse people gone do it in front of your tv screen not in public.. Not very Clever!”
The incident comes shortly after Neville was working at the Etihad for Sky Sports during Manchester City’s 2-1 win over Arsenal. As of now, Gary Neville has not publicly commented on the incident.
