Some decisions feel inevitable long before they’re made official.
The results weren’t good enough, and eventually, he had to go.
And the remarkable thing is how quickly this has all happened.
Chelsea sack Liam Rosenior after less than four months in charge
According to David Ornstein, Chelsea have parted company with head coach Liam Rosenior following a damaging run of results that has forced the club’s hand far earlier than anyone at Stamford Bridge anticipated.
Rosenior took the job in January on a contract through to June 2032.
He lasted fewer than four months.
The club had not intended to review his position for some time.
The plan was to give him a genuine runway to establish himself and implement his ideas.
However, football doesn’t always respect plans.
A sustained decline in results made the decision for them.
Calum McFarlane has been named as interim head coach for the remainder of the season, with the search for a permanent appointment set to begin in earnest once the campaign concludes.
That search will be for Chelsea’s fifth full-time manager under the current BlueCo ownership group.
Five managers in four years.
That instability has been a constant theme of this ownership era.
There were immediate questions about whether his appointment was the right one.
Rosenior did have some positive moments.
He oversaw a 7-0 FA Cup win over Port Vale, as well as winning four of his first five games.
But Chelsea’s form collapsed.
The Premier League results weren’t there.
For supporters who have been protesting outside Stamford Bridge, this is yet another moment that underlines exactly why their frustration has reached the level it has.
The summer will now bring another search, and another promise that this time things will be different.
Chelsea have made that promise before.
