Chelsea have already begun planning their next move after deciding to part ways with Liam Rosenior following a poor run of results.
The club acted after a fifth consecutive Premier League defeat, with the 3-0 loss to Brighton proving decisive.
Despite initially showing patience, the board made the call to sack Rosenior just 15 weeks into his long-term contract. That decision has now shifted full attention to finding a replacement.
According to Football Insider, Chelsea are prioritising the appointment of a former player. The club believe someone with a strong understanding of their identity could help stabilise the situation.
Two names have already emerged as leading candidates. Cesc Fabregas is firmly on the shortlist after impressing in his role at Italian side Como.
The Spaniard is only in his second season of senior management, but he has guided Como into contention for a potential Champions League place.
At the same time, Filipe Luis has also caught the club’s attention. The former defender recently left Flamengo after a highly successful spell in charge, where he won seven trophies.
Chelsea had initially planned to give Rosenior more time. The club were prepared to back him with a full pre-season to implement his ideas. But the defeat to Brighton forced a change in approach.
With the decision already leaning towards a managerial change, both Fabregas and Luis have now become serious options for the role.
