Pep Guardiola has once again found himself at the centre of speculation over his Manchester City future. The City boss has a contract until 2027.
However, talk of a possible exit has continued to grow in recent weeks. Now, his latest comments have added fuel to that debate.
Manchester City reached a fourth successive FA Cup final after a dramatic comeback win over Southampton at Wembley.
Nico Gonzalez scored a stunning late winner to seal a 2-1 victory. That result kept their treble hopes alive.
But it was what Guardiola said after the game that caught attention. Speaking about the run-in, he said (via The Mirror):
“There are five Premier League games left and a Cup final. Then holidays and come back next season.”
That line raised eyebrows. It sounded simple, however, many have started to question whether it was a subtle hint about his future.
Speculation has already linked Enzo Maresca as a possible successor. Despite that noise, Guardiola looked calm.
He appeared relaxed after the win, something not always associated with him during intense periods.
Away from the pitch, his demeanour suggested a manager enjoying the moment. That feeling comes from the team’s position.
City remain in contention on multiple fronts. They face a demanding run of six games in 21 days, starting with a trip to Everton. Guardiola knows the challenge ahead. He said:
“You cannot manage these games with the same players. I need the squad.”
So, he rotated heavily at Wembley and that decision paid off. Jeremy Doku equalised after Southampton took the lead, and Gonzalez secured the win late on.
ight now, Pep Guardiola looks fully focused on the present. But his words have ensured that questions about his Manchester City future will not go away anytime soon.
