Real Madrid faced Real Betis at Benito Villamarín Stadium with pressure building in the La Liga title race. The Los Blancos were trailing Barcelona and needed a win to stay in the fight.
Madrid started well, as Vinicius Junior scored in the 17th minute, and it looked like the Los Blancos would take all three points.
However, things changed late in the game. Real Madrid failed to hold their lead, and Hector Bellerin scored in the fourth minute of stoppage time. As a result, both sides shared the points.
Meanwhile, there was another moment during the match that caught attention and quickly became a talking point. Trent Alexander-Arnold once again started the game.
He has been preferred in recent matches and played the full 90 minutes against Betis. Dani Carvajal, meanwhile, remained on the bench throughout.
There is no doubt about Alexander-Arnold’s attacking quality. However, his defensive work has often raised questions.
During one phase of the match, he pushed high up the pitch to press. However, he failed to win the ball, and Betis quickly broke forward.
More importantly, he did not recover quickly after being caught out of position. That moment drew a reaction from the bench.
Carvajal could be seen making a hand gesture, clearly mocking the situation and showing frustration at the lack of effort.
The footage has since gone viral, raising further questions about the competition between the two players.
Carvajal has started just three matches since the beginning of March. Also, his contract at Real Madrid will expire in the summer.
