Real Madrid are still searching for answers after a disastrous season that has left major uncertainty around the club.

The pressure around the Bernabeu has increased massively in recent months following their struggles in both La Liga and the Champions League.

Real Madrid initially hoped club legend Álvaro Arbeloa could steady the situation after replacing Xabi Alonso earlier this year.

However, results and performances have reportedly failed to convince the hierarchy. Also, losing the El Casico and handing Barcelona the LaLiga title could prove catastrophic for Arbeloa.

Because of that, speculation around the next permanent manager continues to dominate headlines in Spain.

Several high-profile names have already emerged as possible candidates. Yet one familiar figure has now become the centre of attention once again.

Jose Mourinho previously enjoyed huge success at Real Madrid and remains one of the biggest personalities in world football.

Reports in Spain recently claimed the Portuguese coach had become one of the leading candidates to return to the Bernabeu. Now, he has finally addressed the rumours linking him with Real Madrid.

Speaking ahead of Benfica’s clash with Braga, Mourinho insisted he has not personally spoken with the club. He said:

“I want to clarify one thing. There’s still talk about Real Madrid, and I continue to avoid the topic honestly. I haven’t had any contact with the president or any other club official.”

However, Mourinho stopped short of ruling out future discussions completely. He later added:

“I haven’t had any contact with Real Madrid and I won’t until after the last league match against Estoril. After that, there’s a week in which I’ll be free to talk to whomever I deem appropriate.”

Transfer News Live already revealed that Real Madrid have initiated talks with Mourinho’s representatives.

The Portuguese manager currently has a contract with Benfica until 2027, although reports suggest a €3 million release clause could allow him to leave shortly after the season ends.

For now, uncertainty continues around the Real Madrid dugout as the club prepares for one of the most important managerial decisions in recent years.
