Some loan spells end with everyone moving on quietly.

A player returns to his parent club, and attention turns elsewhere.

This one, however, is different.

Chelsea’s £55m valuation ends any chance of Bayern deal for Nicolas Jackson

According to BILD, Germany legend Lothar Matthaus has made a striking revelation about the Jackson situation, confirming that Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany had made it clear internally that he wanted to keep the Senegalese striker beyond this summer.

But the price was the problem.

“Kompany is convinced of Jackson’s quality and would have liked to keep him in Munich,” Matthäus said on Sky90.

“But he is too expensive. Kompany has made it clear internally that he would like to keep Jackson, but obviously at a price that Chelsea might not accept.”

The buy option was set at £55 million.

Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl had already confirmed publicly that Jackson would return to Chelsea when the loan expires.

On pure numbers, Jackson’s season has been solid.

Ten goals and four assists in 33 competitive appearances.

A consistent contribution from a player who was never guaranteed to be first choice under Kompany’s system.

But, for €65 million, Bayern wanted more certainty.

For Chelsea, the situation that awaits Jackson’s return is genuinely complicated.

He’s under contract until 2033.

But with a new permanent manager arriving this summer, where Jackson fits into the next phase at Stamford Bridge is far from clear.

Juventus have been credited with interest.

The Italian giants are searching for attacking reinforcements and Jackson’s profile fits their style.

Kompany’s public endorsement of his quality doesn’t hurt Jackson’s market value.

However, with no Champions League football at Stamford Bridge next season, the striker may well be looking for a way out himself.
