Manchester City have officially confirmed that Pep Guardiola will remain at the club even after stepping down as manager at the end of the season.
The Spaniard will take charge of City for the final time against Aston Villa before beginning a completely new role behind the scenes.
However, Guardiola will not fully leave the City Football Group after ending his legendary spell in the dugout. Instead, City announced that Guardiola will become the club’s Global Ambassador.
The role will involve technical advice across the City Football Group, alongside work on special projects and collaborations.
Guardiola arrived at the Etihad in 2016 and transformed Manchester City into one of the greatest teams in English football history.
During his time at the club, City won six Premier League titles, one Champions League, three FA Cups and five League Cups among several other trophies.
Pep’s side became the first English club to win four consecutive top-flight titles and also completed a famous Treble-winning campaign in 2022-23.
Manchester City described Guardiola as the greatest manager in the club’s history after overseeing the most successful period ever experienced at the Etihad.
The club also praised Guardiola’s influence on English football, with many believing his tactical style permanently changed the modern game in England.
Guardiola himself explained that he simply felt the time had arrived to step away from management after a decade in Manchester.
Now, while Guardiola’s era on the touchline officially comes to an end this weekend, supporters will still see one of the club’s greatest ever figures remain closely connected to the club for years ahead.
