Manchester City are already accelerating their summer transfer plans following Pep Guardiola’s departure from the club.
A new era is now expected to begin at the Etihad Stadium with Enzo Maresca preparing to take charge. The Premier League giants are likely to make several additions before next season begins.
Defensive reinforcements have become one of the priorities behind the scenes as City look to reshape parts of the squad under the incoming manager.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur are also entering a fresh chapter after narrowly avoiding relegation on the final day of the Premier League season.
The North London club have placed their faith in Roberto De Zerbi to rebuild the side and push Tottenham back towards the top half of the table next season.
However, Spurs are now facing growing uncertainty surrounding one of their most important defenders.
According to AS, Manchester City have already initiated contact to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro this summer.
Porro still has two years remaining on his current contract, but negotiations over a possible extension have failed so far.
The Spurs are desperate to keep hold of the Spaniard and would ideally prefer not to sell him during the summer transfer window.
However, Manchester City are now intensifying their efforts to secure a deal quickly before the World Cup begins.
Spurs reportedly value the Spanish international at around £50 million after his impressive performances in recent seasons.
Porro initially joined Tottenham on loan from Sporting CP in January 2023. But the Spurs made the move permanent later that year in a deal worth around £35 million.
Interestingly, the defender already has previous connections with Manchester City. Porro spent three years under contract at the Etihad Stadium between 2019 and 2022.
However, he never made a competitive appearance for the club. Instead, he spent time on loan at Valladolid and Sporting CP before eventually joining the Portuguese side permanently.
