Real Madrid continue to strengthen their squad following the arrival of Jose Mourinho. The Spanish giants have moved quickly in the transfer market as they prepare for the new season.
Earlier this week, the club confirmed the signing of Marc Cucurella. Now, another major addition has arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid have officially announced the signing of Bernardo Silva. The Portugal international joins the club after leaving Manchester City at the end of his contract.
Real Madrid confirmed the agreement in an official statement. The club revealed that Silva has signed a two-year contract. His deal will keep him at the Bernabeu until the summer of 2028.
The statement confirmed that both parties had reached an agreement for the midfielder to become a Real Madrid player. Silva entered the market as one of the most sought-after free agents available.
Several leading European clubs showed interest in securing his signature. Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Juventus all monitored the situation closely.
At one stage, Real Madrid were not actively pursuing a move for the 31-year-old. However, circumstances changed following Mourinho’s appointment.
The Portuguese manager wanted to work with his international teammate and pushed for the transfer. That decision ultimately proved decisive.
Real Madrid moved forward with negotiations and successfully completed the deal. Reports suggest Silva’s contract also includes an option for an additional season.
That clause could become active depending on the number of appearances he makes for the club. The midfielder arrives with vast experience at the highest level.
During his time at Manchester City, Silva established himself as one of the Premier League’s most consistent performers.
The Portuguese star is unlikely to be the final arrival of the summer. Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries are both expected to complete moves to the club soon.
