Some records stand for years.
However, others barely survive a season.
There’s a new transfer record.
And Real Madrid are the club responsible.
Real Madrid break the world transfer record for the first time in history
According to BBC, Real Madrid have completed the signing of Swedish forward Felicia Schroeder in a deal that has become the most expensive transfer in the history of women’s football.
The exact fee remains undisclosed.
But the record has been broken.
Last summer, the previous benchmark was set when Lizbeth Ovalle joined Orlando Pride from Tigres UANL in a deal worth around £1.1 million.
Schroeder’s move has now surpassed that figure.
Representatives from BK Hacken have confirmed the transfer exceeds the previous world-record fee, even though the final amount has not been made public.
The numbers alone are remarkable, but so is the player.
Schroeder scored 91 goals in 128 appearances for Hacken despite still being a teenager.
Those are the kind of figures that attract attention from Europe’s elite.
And eventually, attention turns into offers.
Real Madrid moved decisively.
The Spanish giants have spent recent years trying to close the gap on Barcelona.
Last season, they finished second in Liga F, fifteen points behind their rivals.
Recruiting the most sought-after young striker in women’s football sends a clear message.
They are not standing still.
Real Madrid described Schroeder as “the standout star of the tournament” following her performances at the recent Women’s Europa Cup.
That praise matters.
Especially when it comes from a club of this stature.
The teenager has already established herself as a senior international with Sweden.
And many within the game believe her best years are still ahead of her.
The world-record fee will generate headlines.
But Real Madrid will be hoping the goals follow too.
Because when you break a world record, expectations arrive immediately.
And Schroeder now carries them all the way to Madrid.
