Real Madrid have already made big moves this summer but their transfer business is far from done.
After a season filled with injuries in defense, the club’s priority was clear.
Reinforcements were needed at the back, and that plan has taken shape quickly. Eder Militao and David Alaba missed long spells last year.
Dani Carvajal and Ferland Mendy also battled fitness problems, leaving the team exposed in big moments.
That is why the club started early. Young centre-back Dean Huijsen has already impressed under Xabi Alonso at the Club World Cup.
On the right, Trent Alexander-Arnold has arrived to bring experience and creativity.
Real Madrid now want to wrap up a deal for Benfica’s Álvaro Carreras, a left-back they see as the future in that position.
But the plan does not stop there.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Real Madrid are also exploring their centre-back options.
They are keeping tabs on Ibrahima Konaté, who has just one year left on his Liverpool contract.
William Saliba of Arsenal and Christian Mosquera from Valencia are also being monitored.
Now, a new name has entered the frame — but not from Spain or England.
Over the weekend, Italian club AS Roma made a bold move.
They directly offered their key defender to Real Madrid. The 25-year-old is coming off a strong season, having played all 38 Serie A matches.
Roma are looking to raise funds and have priced Evan Ndicka at €40 million.
Real Madrid, however, are not convinced just yet.
According to the Italian outlet, the club has decided to pass on the offer for now, believing they have enough depth at centre-back for the upcoming season.
Still, with the window far from over, and with injuries always a risk, the situation could shift quickly, as it so often does in Madrid.
