Chelsea have a left-wing problem.
Alejandro Garnacho hasn’t convinced.
And he’s now on the market.
Mykhailo Mudryk faces a potential doping ban that could rule him out for months.
Xabi Alonso needs solutions.
He needs them now.
And the name his recruitment team keep coming back to is a Londoner who has rebuilt his career in Italy.
Someone who has been dreaming about this exact moment.
Chelsea hold fresh talks with Jonathan Rowe’s entourage as personal terms agreed
According to Il Resto del Carlino, new contacts between Chelsea and Rowe’s agent have taken place in the last 48 hours, confirming that the London club have not given up on a move for the 24-year-old, who remains one of four or five wide options they are actively monitoring ahead of this summer’s business.
And for Chelsea, Rowe carries something the others don’t.
He’s a Londoner.
Born near Wembley.
A player who has always wanted to return to English football on his own terms after injury derailed his career before it had properly begun.
His second half of last season at Bologna was outstanding, three goals and three assists in Serie A, three and two in the Europa League and one Coppa Italia goal.
The performances caught the attention of Aston Villa, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce at the end of the season.
Now Chelsea are the ones holding fresh conversations.
Bologna would desperately like to keep him.
They want to show ambition, after an eighth-place Serie A finish they consider below their own expectations.
Rowe staying would send exactly that kind of message.
But the club know reality too well to be naive.
When Turkish offers arrived last summer, they backed themselves to hold firm.
If the Premier League comes calling, and Chelsea make a formal approach, the situation is entirely different.
Rowe knows it.
Chelsea know it.
And Bologna are bracing themselves for an offer that, should it arrive, changes everything.
