Rodri has returned to his best form during the World Cup after an encouraging campaign with Manchester City last season.
The midfielder recovered from a serious ACL injury to re-establish himself in Pep Guardiola’s side and carried that momentum into the tournament.
As Spain captain, he has played a leading role in guiding his country into the semi-finals while helping build the competition’s strongest defence.
His performances have also revived speculation surrounding his long-term future at club level.
Real Madrid have regularly been linked with a move for the midfielder, although recent reports suggested Florentino Perez had cooled his interest in a summer deal.
Rodri has also made it clear that he does not want discussions over his future to become a distraction during Spain’s World Cup campaign.
According to El Nacional, the Manchester City star has asked his representatives to begin exploring his options once the tournament comes to an end.
The report states that a return to Spain remains an ambition for the midfielder as he enters an important stage of his career.
Barcelona and Real Madrid are capable of offering that opportunity. Despite that, Rodri is not actively looking to force an exit from Manchester City.
The Spaniard remains happy at the club and continues to enjoy a significant role in the Premier League champions’ plans.
However, he is aware that any return to La Liga would become more difficult if delayed for too long.
For now, all discussions will take place after the World Cup, when his representatives will assess the realistic possibilities available to him.
