Inter Milan enjoyed a superb 2025/26 domestic campaign under first-year head coach Cristian Chivu.
The Nerazzurri secured their 21st Serie A title with three matches remaining. They also defeated Lazio 2-0 in the Coppa Italia final to complete a domestic double.
However, their Champions League campaign ended early after a disappointing exit in the playoff round.
Inter Milan have since started reshaping an ageing squad ahead of the new season. Yann Sommer and Stefan de Vrij left after their contracts expired this summer.
Meanwhile, Denzel Dumfries completed a move to Real Madrid and created a major gap at wing-back.
Inter responded by signing Manuel Akanji and bringing Aleksandar Stankovic back from Club Brugge.
Ivan Provedel also arrived from Lazio as the club continued strengthening its defensive options.
However, Chivu still needs another wing-back following Dumfries’ departure from the San Siro.
Their search has now moved towards England after one defender impressed during the World Cup.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Inter Milan have opened talks with Tottenham Hotspur over Djed Spence.
The England international featured in all seven matches during his country’s run to the semi-finals.
Spence faced criticism after a difficult start against DR Congo during the knockout stages.
However, he responded well and provided pace and energy from the bench in later matches.
The 25-year-old also featured during England’s painful semi-final defeat against Argentina.
His World Cup performances followed a solid campaign with Tottenham Hotspur last season.
Spence made 30 Premier League appearances and another 10 in the Champions League.
He also played through the final weeks of the domestic campaign with a broken jaw.
Inter see Spence as their leading option to replace Dumfries this summer.
The Italian club approached Tottenham to ask about his availability during recent discussions.
Tottenham reportedly do not consider Spence an unsellable player, which could help negotiations.
However, the financial demands involved could still complicate any agreement between the clubs.
Inter believe his price could reach €40 million, although talks may continue.
The defender would also welcome the move after previously playing in Serie A with Genoa.
