Liverpool set sights on £40M Tottenham Hotspur star

Liverpool have not yet made a formal offer.

Liverpool continue to assess defensive reinforcements as Andoni Iraola looks to reshape his squad before the new season.

The Reds have already completed several additions following a disappointing 2025–26 campaign under former manager Arne Slot.

However, significant departures have left Liverpool needing further depth in several areas of the squad.

Andrew Robertson has left the club, while Liverpool also remain short of established options across both full-back positions.

Therefore, the Reds are exploring players capable of covering more than one defensive role.

Their search has now led them towards a Premier League defender who impressed for England during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to journalist Dave Davis on the Anfield Index YouTube channel, Liverpool are taking a serious look at Tottenham Hotspur full-back Djed Spence.

The 25-year-old can operate on both the right and left sides of defence, making his versatility particularly attractive to Liverpool.

Spence also strengthened his reputation during England’s World Cup campaign after featuring eight times for Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Despite playing much of the tournament with a protective jaw brace, he produced several dependable performances across both defensive flanks.

Moreover, he played an important role in England’s third-place victory over France by winning a crucial late penalty.

His performances followed a solid season with Tottenham, where he made 30 Premier League appearances and helped his side keep nine clean sheets.

However, completing a deal could prove expensive. Tottenham could demand around £40 million for the England international following his impressive World Cup and homegrown status.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan are also interested in Spence, while other Premier League clubs have monitored his situation.

Liverpool have not yet made a formal offer, and there is no guarantee that a transfer will materialise.

Nevertheless, the Reds are seriously considering Spence as they continue searching for versatile defensive reinforcements before the summer window closes.
