Liverpool could be heading towards a significant ownership development as outside investors explore buying a minority stake in the club.
Fenway Sports Group remain Liverpool’s controlling owners, but they have previously accepted outside investment while maintaining control of the club.
Meanwhile, another investment group has now expressed interest in acquiring a strategic minority stake as Liverpool enter a new era.
The potential deal comes during a period of major change after Liverpool finished fifth in the Premier League last season.
Moreover, Arne Slot left his position following the disappointing campaign, with former Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola subsequently taking charge.
However, developments away from the pitch could now attract significant attention because one of the world’s wealthiest businessmen has entered discussions.
According to Sky Sports, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has held initial talks about joining a consortium exploring an investment in Liverpool Football Club.
The consortium is led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia, the former Queens Park Rangers co-owner.
Bhatia’s investment group has approached Bezos about potentially joining its effort to acquire a minority stake in the Anfield club.
However, Bezos has not made a final decision over whether he will participate in the proposed investment.
The consortium has hired advisers as discussions continue over a potential agreement with Liverpool’s current owners, Fenway Sports Group.
Furthermore, Transfer News Live previously reported that a potential transaction involving Bhatia’s consortium would value Liverpool at more than £4.5B.
FSG have also publicly confirmed receiving interest from the investment group regarding a strategic minority investment.
Therefore, the discussions currently concern a minority investment rather than a complete takeover of Liverpool.
FSG previously sold a small stake to US private equity firm Dynasty Equity for £164M in 2023.
For now, talks involving Bezos remain at an initial stage, with no guarantee that the Amazon founder will ultimately join Bhatia’s consortium.
