Manchester City have made their position clear after learning that Rodri wants to leave the club for Real Madrid.
The midfielder has entered the final year of his contract after another eventful season at the Etihad Stadium.
Although injuries limited his availability during the 2025–26 campaign, Rodri returned to his best during the World Cup.
The 30-year-old captained Spain to victory and won the Golden Ball after an outstanding tournament.
His performances have strengthened Real Madrid’s interest as they look to add another elite midfielder this summer.
According to TEAMtalk, Rodri has informed people close to him that he believes the time is right to leave Manchester City.
Real Madrid have emerged as his preferred destination as he considers a new challenge following the end of Pep Guardiola’s era.
Manchester City have now responded by making their own position clear.
The club do not want the situation to drag deep into the transfer window and want clarity over Rodri’s intentions as soon as possible.
Moreover, City are not expected to stand in his way if Real Madrid can reach a suitable agreement.
Rodri also reportedly has no intention of running down his contract and leaving on a free transfer next summer.
Instead, he believes Manchester City should receive a transfer fee if he decides to move on.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid have intensified their interest following his performances for Spain at the World Cup.
Jose Mourinho has pushed strongly for the transfer, while the wider Madrid hierarchy have also become more receptive to a move. However, the Spanish giants have set financial limits.
As per the report, Real Madrid have informed Rodri’s camp they will not pay more than €50M for the midfielder. That valuation has already been communicated to Manchester City.
City are ready to be realistic over Rodri’s valuation but want a definitive answer before the closing stages of the window.
