Chelsea have moved aggressively to reshape their squad after a disappointing 2025/26 Premier League campaign.
The Blues finished 10th and missed out on European qualification before appointing Xabi Alonso as their new manager.
However, Chelsea have responded with major investment this summer. They broke the British transfer record to sign Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for £117M.
Meanwhile, Geovany Quenda, Marco Palestra and Emmanuel Emegha have also strengthened Alonso’s squad ahead of the new season.
Chelsea have now turned their attention towards improving their defence, with Maxence Lacroix emerging as their latest addition.
The French centre-back impressed for Crystal Palace last season, making 35 Premier League appearances and helping them keep 11 clean sheets.
Moreover, Lacroix contributed one goal and two assists before helping Palace win the UEFA Conference League against Rayo Vallecano.
His performances also earned him a place in France’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he made three appearances.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have now reached an agreement with Crystal Palace to sign Lacroix for £52M.
The official bid has been accepted, while the 26-year-old is undergoing his medical in London before completing the transfer.
David Ornstein has also confirmed that the deal is being finalised, with Lacroix set to sign a contract until June 2032.
Importantly, Axel Disasi will not form part of the agreement between the two Premier League clubs.
Lacroix will therefore become another major addition to Alonso’s squad as Chelsea continue rebuilding following their difficult domestic campaign.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace have started considering possible replacements. Chibuike Nwaiwu is among their alternatives alongside Chrislain Matsima.
Chelsea must now complete the remaining formalities before officially confirming Lacroix as their latest summer signing.
