Real Madrid are preparing to make their first formal move for Rodri as Jose Mourinho continues reshaping his squad ahead of the new season.
Los Blancos finished the 2025-26 campaign without a major trophy after their Champions League quarter-final exit to Bayern Munich.
Therefore, the club has backed Mourinho heavily in the transfer market. Marc Cucurella and Denzel Dumfries have already arrived, while Bernardo Silva and Ibrahima Konate joined on free transfers.
Moreover, Real Madrid repotedly agreed a deal worth more than €100 million to sign Yan Diomande as their squad rebuild continues.
However, strengthening the midfield remains another priority before the transfer window closes.
According to Nicolo Schira, Real Madrid are now ready to submit their first offer worth around €50-€60 million to Manchester City for Rodri.
The Spanish midfielder has reportedly rejected Manchester City’s proposal to extend his current contract because he wants to join Real Madrid.
Furthermore, Schira states that Rodri has already agreed personal terms on a contract that would keep him at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2030.
The 30-year-old enjoyed another impressive campaign despite carefully managing his return to fitness.
He made 21 Premier League appearances for Manchester City and remained a key figure at the club. Moreover, Rodri finished the campaign by helping Spain win the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
He collected the Golden Ball after being named the competition’s best player. Manchester City are still hoping to keep hold of one of their most influential players.
However, Rodri’s reported decision to reject a new contract has strengthened Real Madrid’s belief that a deal can be completed. The Spanish giants are now preparing to test City’s resolve with their opening offer.
