Barcelona remain active in the transfer market as they search for a new striker this summer.
The Catalan giants are looking for a long-term replacement after allowing Robert Lewandowski to leave Camp Nou on a free transfer.
Their priority has been Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez. Barcelona have already made a substantial offer, but completing the deal has proved extremely difficult.
Atletico Madrid continue standing firm over the Argentina international. As a result, Barcelona have started assessing other attacking options before making their next move in the transfer market.
The La Liga champions are also keeping an eye on several alternative targets. Bournemouth youngster Eli Junior Kroupi is among the players admired by the club.
However, Barcelona are unwilling to match the Premier League side’s asking price, which is reported to exceed £100 million.
According to Cadena SER, Barcelona are considering a move for Benfica striker Vangelis Pavlidis as an alternative to Julian Alvarez during this summer’s transfer window.
Pavlidis has enjoyed an impressive spell since joining Benfica from AZ Alkmaar in 2024. He has scored 60 goals and provided 20 assists in 111 appearances across all competitions.
His record also extends onto the European stage. The striker has contributed nine goals and five assists in 22 Champions League appearances for the Portuguese club.
Meanwhile, Pavlidis remains under contract with Benfica until the summer of 2029. Even so, the report suggests a sizeable offer could test the Portuguese side’s resolve.
Barcelona must now decide whether to continue pursuing Alvarez or move for an alternative before the transfer window progresses further.
With Atletico Madrid refusing to soften their stance, the Catalan club are weighing up whether a move for the Benfica forward represents the best route to strengthening Hansi Flick’s attack.
