Chelsea have continued their busy summer rebuild under Xabi Alonso. The Blues are determined to respond after finishing 10th in the Premier League and missing out on European football last season.
Club officials have already invested heavily to strengthen several areas of the squad. Morgan Rogers became Chelsea’s headline arrival after completing a record-breaking move from Aston Villa.
The club have also signed Marco Palestra, Geovany Quenda and Emmanuel Emegha, while experienced players Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson are expected to add further leadership.
However, Chelsea also wanted another proven defender. Strengthening the backline remained a priority as Alonso prepared for his first full season at Stamford Bridge.
The club therefore turned to one of the Premier League’s standout central defenders. Now, Chelsea have completed that deal.
Chelsea have officially announced the signing of France international Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace.
The 26-year-old has signed a contract until 2032 and will join his new teammates ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Speaking after completing the move, Lacroix expressed his excitement. He said:
“I am really happy to be part of this beautiful club. Everyone knows the legend of Chelsea, its tradition of winning, and to be a part of that is a proud moment.
“When I spoke with the manager, I saw that we have the same direction and desire for this club.
“We want to win. When you see the quality of the players here, everything we have around the club, it’s something that we can achieve. The ambition is to lift trophies, and I can’t wait to contribute.”
Lacroix arrives after two impressive seasons at Crystal Palace. He made 98 appearances for the Eagles and helped the club win the UEFA Conference League, the FA Cup and the Community Shield.
The defender also earned his first senior France call-up before making three appearances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
