Inter Milan remain active in the transfer market after another successful season in Italy. The Serie A champions have already strengthened several areas of Cristian Chivu’s squad this summer.
However, the club are still searching for another midfielder before the transfer window closes. Liverpool could now face another approach.
The Reds have already received interest in one of their academy graduates, but they have refused to lower their asking price despite the player’s contract entering its final year.
Inter are determined to test Liverpool’s resolve again. According to The Athletic, the Italian champions have renewed their pursuit of Curtis Jones after reopening discussions through intermediaries.
The report states that Inter Milan have indicated they are prepared to pay €35M for the Liverpool midfielder. However, that figure still falls short of Liverpool’s valuation.
Liverpool remain firm over their stance. Senior figures at Anfield would rather allow Jones to leave on a free transfer in 2027 than accept a fee below their asking price.
The club have pointed Inter towards Tottenham Hotspur’s €40M signing of Conor Gallagher earlier this year as a comparison. There is also uncertainty over Jones’ future.
The 25-year-old has only one year remaining on his current contract, while there are no active talks over a new deal.
Liverpool remain open to discussing an extension if both sides can bridge the gap in their expectations. Inter have admired Jones for some time.
The Serie A champions previously attempted to sign him during the January transfer window with a loan proposal that included an option to buy, but Liverpool rejected that offer immediately.
Jones has made 228 appearances since making his Liverpool debut in 2019, scoring 22 goals and providing 25 assists while helping the club win two Premier League titles.
