Crystal Palace lifted the UEFA Conference League trophy last season despite struggling in the Premier League.
The Eagles finished 15th domestically but secured European football after beating Rayo Vallecano in the final. The club have since focused on rebuilding their defence under Pierre Sage.
Palace sold Maxence Lacroix to Chelsea earlier this summer and have already started searching for a replacement before the new campaign.
Chelsea‘s defensive reshuffle has created that opportunity. Maxence Lacroix has arrived at Stamford Bridge, while several defenders continue facing uncertain futures under Xabi Alonso.
One of those defenders has now become Crystal Palace’s leading target. The Eagles hope to strengthen their backline before the transfer window closes.
According to Fabrice Hawkins, Crystal Palace are preparing an offer to Chelsea for Axel Disasi after identifying the French defender as their priority replacement for Maxence Lacroix.
The report states that talks between the two clubs are already underway. Palace want to complete a deal as they continue rebuilding their defence ahead of the new season.
Disasi returned to Chelsea earlier this summer after his loan spell at West Ham United ended. However, reports suggest the defender does not feature in Alonso’s long-term plans.
Chelsea are also open to a permanent departure. The Blues have reportedly placed a £25 million valuation on the 28-year-old as they continue reshaping the squad.
Italian clubs remain interested in the situation. Fabrice Hawkins reports that they continue monitoring developments while Palace attempt to move ahead in the race.
Crystal Palace have already experienced significant defensive changes during the current transfer window.
Nathaniel Clyne has left the club, while Oscar Mingueza has arrived. The Eagles have also held talks to sign Chrislain Matsima.
Pre-season has produced mixed results for Sage’s side. Palace beat Swindon Town before losing to Bromley and Lens.
They also drew with Famalicao before finishing the Como Cup with a 3-1 victory over Al-Ula. The club now hope to complete another defensive signing before the Premier League season begins.
