Manchester City are preparing for their first season under Enzo Maresca following Pep Guardiola’s departure.
The Premier League giants narrowly missed out on the title last season, but they still completed a domestic cup double by lifting both the FA Cup and the EFL Cup.
The club have also overseen a major squad rebuild this summer. Elliot Anderson arrived in a club-record deal, while Mathys Detourbet and Jeremy Monga strengthened the squad.
Meanwhile, John Stones, Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake and Bernardo Silva all departed as City entered a new era under Maresca.
Pre-season has focused on integrating younger players before several World Cup stars return. However, Manchester City are still active in the transfer market before the new campaign begins.
According to TEAMtalk, Manchester City are closing in on the signing of Geronimo Rulli from Marseille.
The report states that City have identified the Argentina international as their preferred replacement for James Trafford, who is closing in on a £40 million move to Leeds United.
TEAMtalk claims Rulli has already agreed personal terms on a two-year contract and is eager to complete the move.
The 34-year-old reportedly views the transfer as the final major opportunity of his career. Manchester City have also submitted an official bid to Marseille.
Their opening offer stands at around €2 million, while the French club want closer to €3.5 million for the goalkeeper, who remains under contract until June 2027.
The report adds that the transfer would complete Rulli’s return to Manchester City. The club signed him from Deportivo Maldonado in 2016 before immediately loaning him back to Real Sociedad.
He never made a senior appearance before leaving permanently. Rulli would provide experienced competition for Gianluigi Donnarumma without expecting to become the first-choice goalkeeper.
