Real Madrid have made strengthening the right wing one of their biggest priorities this summer as Jose Mourinho continues reshaping his squad ahead of the new campaign.
The Spanish giants have already invested heavily in the transfer market and remain determined to add another elite attacking option before the La Liga season begins.
Their main focus has been securing the signing of Yan Diomande, but negotiations have proved far more complicated than expected.
Madrid wanted to complete the deal in time for Diomande to join preparations before their league opener on August 22.
Instead, discussions have dragged on as several issues remain unresolved between the two clubs.
According to SPORT, Yan Diomande’s proposed move has suffered another setback after RB Leipzig included him in their pre-season camp in Austria.
Leipzig confirmed on social media that the 19-year-old had returned to training after recovering from an infection that kept him out of their recent friendly against SC Verl.
The Bundesliga club later released another video showing the winger arriving for training with the message: “Ready for training!”
The development represents another obstacle for Real Madrid, who preferred Diomande to remain away from Leipzig while negotiations continued.
Leipzig have already rejected an initial €100 million offer from Madrid. The German club value the Ivorian at around €120 million and have yet to respond to Madrid’s improved proposal.
Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schafer also dismissed recent claims that the transfer had already been completed.
Despite the latest delay, Real Madrid remain confident Diomande’s long-term future lies at the Santiago Bernabeu.
However, there are many other issues they need to resolve before completing the transfer.
Also, the teenager’s return to Leipzig training highlights that an agreement is not as close as many initially believed.
