Manchester City are considering another major midfield addition as Enzo Maresca continues reshaping his squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
City have already strengthened the position and are expected to complete a deal worth more than £85 million for Monaco midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi.
However, their plans could depend heavily on Rodri’s future. Barcelona remain in talks over signing the Spanish midfielder, leaving City assessing possible replacements should he depart.
Maresca is familiar with several Chelsea players following his previous spell at Stamford Bridge.
That connection could now play an important role as City consider an ambitious move for Enzo Fernandez.
According to TEAMtalk, Fernandez is very keen on joining Manchester City this summer, with reports indicating that a deal could be achievable for around £100 million.
The Argentina international joined Chelsea from Benfica for £107 million in 2023. He has since established himself as an important figure at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea currently value Fernandez at around £120 million. However, there is reportedly a belief that an agreement could ultimately be reached for approximately £100 million.
City are now weighing up whether the 25-year-old’s quality and potential justify such a significant investment. Their pursuit could depend on Rodri leaving the Etihad Stadium.
However, Chelsea do not want negotiations continuing deep into the transfer window. The Blues want clarity as new manager Xabi Alonso prepares his squad for the upcoming campaign.
Chelsea have therefore informed City that they must submit a formal offer soon or risk losing the opportunity to sign Fernandez altogether.
Despite their firm valuation, the possibility of a compromise allows City to complete one of the summer’s biggest Premier League transfers.
Fernandez’s willingness to make the switch strengthens City’s position. But they must now decide whether to move quickly with an offer around the £100 million mark.
