Tottenham Hotspur have already invested heavily in reshaping their squad after narrowly avoiding relegation during a difficult 2025–26 campaign.
Roberto De Zerbi has taken charge of the rebuild, with Spurs targeting significant improvements before beginning their new Premier League season.
The North London club have spent more than £230 million this summer while strengthening several important areas of De Zerbi’s squad.
Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke have arrived, while experienced left-back Andrew Robertson joined on a free transfer.
Tottenham have also enjoyed an encouraging preseason, including victories over Milton Keynes Dons, Auckland FC and Chelsea.
However, Spurs are still looking for more attacking quality as De Zerbi attempts to improve the creativity and versatility of his frontline.
Their search has now led them towards Anfield, with Tottenham making contact over a potentially significant Premier League transfer.
According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Tottenham Hotspur are in very concrete talks with Cody Gakpo and have already contacted Liverpool.
The Dutch forward has therefore emerged as a serious transfer option for Spurs as they continue strengthening De Zerbi’s attacking choices.
However, Plettenberg’s information contradicts suggestions that Tottenham have already secured an agreement with the 27-year-old.
Sources close to Gakpo currently deny that the player has reached any agreement with Tottenham regarding a potential move.
Therefore, negotiations remain ongoing rather than advanced to the point where Spurs can consider the transfer agreed.
Gakpo could still leave Liverpool for Tottenham because a move to North London remains a serious possibility.
For now, Spurs have established contact and concrete negotiations are underway, although reports of an agreement with the Liverpool forward remain premature.
