Liverpool are preparing for further transfer activity as Andoni Iraola continues reshaping his squad before the deadline.
The Reds finished fifth in the Premier League last season. Their cup campaigns also ended disappointingly, with Paris Saint-Germain eliminating them from Europe at the quarter-final stage.
Manchester City then knocked Liverpool out of the FA Cup at the same stage. Liverpool have responded by strengthening several positions during the summer transfer window.
Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz have joined permanently, while Ronald Araujo arrived on loan from Barcelona.
The club also continue negotiations for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola as they consider further attacking reinforcements.
However, Liverpool could soon need another midfielder because Curtis Jones is closing in on a £30 million move to Inter Milan.
His expected departure has pushed the club towards another Premier League target. According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool are ready to accelerate their pursuit of Adam Wharton.
Iraola has approved the potential move for the 22-year-old as Liverpool consider replacing Jones before the window closes.
The Crystal Palace midfielder could give Liverpool another option in deeper midfield areas alongside Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai.
However, Palace have placed a major obstacle in Liverpool’s path through their valuation of the England international.
Palace reportedly value Wharton at around £78 million, while some sources believe their demands could approach £100 million.
The London club have little intention of losing another important player late in the transfer window.
Liverpool must therefore decide whether to meet Palace’s demands or pursue another solution before the deadline. Wharton’s own situation could also complicate any late agreement.
The midfielder reportedly expects to remain at Crystal Palace for the coming season despite significant transfer interest.
Liverpool nevertheless continue to regard him as a serious option while preparing for Jones’ likely departure.
