Manchester City have experienced major squad changes during Enzo Maresca’s first summer in charge, particularly across midfield and attack.

Bernardo Silva and John Stones departed after their contracts expired, while Rodri completed a £65.4 million move to Barcelona.

Savinho joined Tottenham for £75 million, Tijjani Reijnders moved to Al Qadsiah and Nico Gonzalez signed for Newcastle United.

City responded by breaking their transfer record to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for £116 million.

Ayyoub Bouaddi also arrived from Lille for more than £81 million as Maresca continued rebuilding his midfield options.

Deadline day then brought an agreement worth £125 million (€140 million) for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

City also moved for Everton winger Iliman Ndiaye during the closing stages of another eventful transfer window.

Away from the Etihad, one former City academy player is now attempting to secure his own move after struggling for regular football.

In a statement posted on Instagram, former Manchester City winger Samuel Edozie confirmed that he has submitted a transfer request to Southampton.

The 23-year-old explained that his decision has nothing to do with Southampton supporters or his teammates.

Instead, Edozie said he needs regular playing time at this stage of his career after receiving limited minutes.

He stated that Southampton prevented him from leaving last summer and again during the January transfer window.

Edozie also revealed that several European clubs have made offers this summer for a potential transfer.

However, he claimed Southampton have requested up to 50% of any future transfer fee received by a prospective club.

The winger believes that condition has made those opportunities extremely difficult to pursue.

Edozie spent the 2024–25 campaign on loan with Anderlecht, recording four goals and four assists.

He has since attracted interest from Lecce, Red Bull Salzburg and Rangers, while previously rejecting a £5 million Cardiff City move.

Edozie joined Manchester City’s academy from Millwall in 2019 before making one senior appearance in the 2021 FA Community Shield.

He moved to Southampton for £6 million in 2022 and is currently contracted until June 30, 2027.
