Former Manchester City star unhappy with Galatasaray

The Turkish champions strengthened their wide options by signing Rafael Leao from AC Milan.

Galatasaray have started the 2026-27 season unbeaten after making several additions during a busy summer transfer window.

Okan Buruk’s side collected seven points from their opening three Super Lig matches and currently sit top of the table.

They drew 2-2 with Corum FK before recording a 4-0 victory away at Erzurumspor.

Galatasaray then defeated Goztepe 3-2, but one established member of Buruk’s squad has seen his playing time reduced.

The Turkish champions also strengthened their wide options by signing Rafael Leao from AC Milan for a reported €43 million.

According to Turkish newspaper Sabah, former Manchester City winger Leroy Sane has told Galatasaray officials that he is unhappy.

The 30-year-old is reportedly dissatisfied with his reduced playing time and does not view himself as an impact substitute.

Sane started Galatasaray’s opening league fixture against Corum FK on August 14.

However, Buruk subsequently dropped him to the bench for the following two matches, with Yunus Akgun replacing him.

Sane entered after 65 minutes against Erzurumspor, when Galatasaray already held a three-goal advantage.

He then received only 17 minutes from the bench during the 3-2 victory over Goztepe.

Competition for places has now increased following Leao’s arrival from Milan.

Leao primarily operates from the left, whereas Sane usually plays from the right.

However, Leao’s inclusion could allow Baris Alper Yilmaz to switch across and compete for Sane’s preferred position.

Sane joined Galatasaray on a free transfer from Bayern Munich in June 2025.

The Germany international signed a three-year contract, with Galatasaray guaranteeing him £7.66 million annually plus a loyalty bonus.

He contributed seven goals and nine assists across 43 appearances during his first season in Turkey.

Sane also helped Galatasaray win the Turkish Super Lig and Turkish Super Cup during that campaign.

His immediate role remains uncertain as Buruk prepares his side for their next league fixture against Istanbul Basaksehir.
