Barcelona are already considering future transfer opportunities after completing a major squad overhaul during the summer window.
Hansi Flick’s side strengthened several areas, with Rodri, Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi and Gabriel Jesus among their new arrivals.
Joao Cancelo also returned permanently, giving Flick another option across the defence following several departures from his squad.
However, Barcelona remain attentive to opportunities which could strengthen the left side of their defence next summer.
The club attempted to address that area before Tuesday’s deadline but failed to complete one proposed operation.
According to SPORT, Barcelona could now revisit a move for Inter Milan defender Federico Dimarco next summer.
Barcelona previously proposed a swap involving Alejandro Balde during the closing stages of the summer window. However, the deal collapsed.
Their new approach could centre on Dimarco’s contract situation, which may create a more favourable opportunity in 2027.
The 28-year-old’s current Inter contract expires on June 30, 2027, and the parties have not agreed on an extension.
Therefore, Barcelona could potentially sign the Italy international on a free transfer if his contract runs down.
Dimarco has also acknowledged Barcelona’s reported interest without closing the door on a potential move to the Catalan club.
Meanwhile, Barcelona’s current options on the left include Balde, Xavi Espart and Cancelo.
SPORT reports that Flick currently prefers Espart and Cancelo ahead of Balde, despite the academy graduate’s natural left-footed profile.
Gerard Martin provides another left-footed option, although Barcelona currently need him in central defence.
The club failed to add another left-sided centre-back during the summer, leaving Martin as the natural option there.
Dimarco’s contractual position could therefore give Barcelona another route to reinforce the left side without paying a transfer fee.
Barcelona will continue monitoring potential market opportunities before deciding whether to pursue the Inter defender for next season.
