Chelsea star concerned after Xabi Alonso’s transfer business

Chelsea transformed Xabi Alonso‘s squad during a busy summer window, spending more than £280M on new signings.

Morgan Rogers became the headline addition after joining from Aston Villa for up to £117M. Maxence Lacroix and Marco Palestra also arrived for £51M and £43M respectively.

The Blues also added Emiliano Martinez, Danny Welbeck, Jordan Henderson, Geovany Quenda and Valentin Barco. Meanwhile, 39 players departed either permanently or on loan.

Enzo Fernandez completed a £125M move to Manchester City, while Nicolas Jackson joined Aston Villa for £65M. Marc Cucurella also left for £51.8M, with Mykhailo Mudryk joining Tottenham on loan.

Chelsea have since won their opening two Premier League matches under Alonso. They beat Fulham 3-2 before securing a 4-3 victory over Brighton at Stamford Bridge.

However, Alonso’s early selections and Chelsea’s summer recruitment have created uncertainty for one member of his attacking options.

According to ESPN Brazil, Chelsea attacker Estevao has become concerned about his opportunities under Alonso and is considering his future.

The Brazilian missed the closing stages of last season with a thigh injury. He has since found regular opportunities difficult to secure following his return.

Estevao played the final seven minutes against Fulham before starting Chelsea’s 2-0 EFL Cup victory over Luton Town. Alonso then left him on the bench throughout the win over Brighton.

Competition is particularly strong in Estevao’s preferred central attacking position. Cole Palmer can operate there, while Chelsea also strengthened the role by signing Rogers.

Another possibility would involve competing with Pedro Neto on the right. However, ESPN reports that Estevao does not favour that option.

The 19-year-old believes gaining the necessary physical strength for the role could reduce his mobility and affect his playing style.

Estevao still likes Chelsea and wants to remain at Stamford Bridge. However, his position could change if opportunities remain limited during the first half of the season.

The January transfer window could therefore become important when he reassesses his situation. Estevao has made 38 Chelsea appearances, scoring eight goals and providing three assists.
