Sergio Busquets knows Barcelona better than most after spending 15 seasons in the club’s first team.
The former midfielder made 722 official appearances and won 32 major trophies during his time at Camp Nou.
Busquets played under several managers after making his senior debut under Pep Guardiola in September 2008.
Barcelona currently have Hansi Flick in charge, with the German under contract until 2028.
Flick has delivered sustained success since arriving in 2024, including consecutive LaLiga titles and major domestic trophies.
However, Busquets has now identified a former teammate whom he believes could eventually manage Barcelona.
According to MARCA, Busquets believes Cesc Fabregas is developing into a coach capable of taking charge of a major club.
Fabregas has built his managerial reputation at Como after moving into coaching following his retirement in 2023.
He guided the Italian club into Serie A before securing Champions League qualification during the 2025/26 season.
Busquets praised the progress made by his former Barcelona and Spain teammate. He said:
“Como is one of my favourite Italian teams. Not just because of Cesc, but also because of the players.”
He also made his view on Fabregas’ managerial future clear. Busquets added:
“Great coaches can coach great teams. I think Cesc is on his way to doing that.”
Fabregas previously spent three seasons with Barcelona after returning from Arsenal in 2011. He played alongside Busquets, Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta during that period.
Busquets stopped short of claiming that a Barcelona appointment is already planned.
“I don’t know if it will happen, if he’ll want it, but if everything continues as it is, it’s possible, of course.”
For now, Flick remains Barcelona manager, but Busquets clearly believes Fabregas has the potential to make that step in the future.
