Manchester City stars contact lawyers over potential claims against club

Players and their representatives are now also examining whether they could have grounds to pursue separate legal action against Manchester City.

The financial case of Manchester City could create further legal problems after the Premier League’s long-running investigation reached a significant stage.

An independent tribunal reportedly found City guilty of more than 100 charges relating to financial rules during the period between 2009 and 2018.

City have strongly denied wrongdoing and plan to appeal, while the exact sanctions against the Premier League club remain undetermined.

However, potential consequences could extend beyond sporting punishments, with rival clubs already expected to consider claims relating to financial losses.

Players and their representatives are now also examining whether they could have grounds to pursue separate legal action against Manchester City.

According to Sky Sports, players and agents have contacted lawyers regarding potential claims over bonuses missed during City’s period of alleged rule breaches.

Those claims could relate to bonuses for winning Premier League titles or securing European qualification that players potentially missed because of City’s results.

Several Premier League clubs are also expected to explore legal action regarding losses they believe resulted from City’s financial dealings during that period.

The Premier League’s written report claimed City concealed £900 million through what it described as “sham” sponsorship deals.

However, City’s hierarchy remains defiant as the club prepares to challenge the findings through the appeal process.

Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak addressed the situation and insisted the club would remain united despite the growing pressure surrounding City.

Former manager Pep Guardiola also came out and showed his support for the club during these tough times for the Cityzens.
