Erling Haaland has continued delivering impressive performances for Manchester City while remaining a central figure for Norway at international level.
The striker secured another Premier League Golden Boot last season before maintaining his goalscoring form during the opening stages of the current campaign.
Haaland is also tied to Manchester City through a long-term contract after signing a nine-and-a-half-year agreement running until summer 2034.
However, the Norwegian international has now become involved in a legal dispute concerning the alleged commercial use of his image and characteristics.
According to VG, Erling Haaland and his British company, York Promotions Ltd., have filed a lawsuit against airline Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA.
Lawyer Thomas Hagen confirmed that a summons had been filed on behalf of Haaland and his company over the airline’s marketing activities. Hagen said:
“The case concerns Norwegian’s unlawful exploitation of Haaland’s characteristics in its marketing of airline tickets during the World Cup.”
A planning meeting involving the parties is scheduled at Oslo District Court on October 9 and will take place by video.
The dispute concerns an alleged violation of the Marketing Act, although VG reported that the full details of Haaland’s lawsuit remain unknown.
Norwegian previously shared an image of one of its planes edited to feature Haaland’s recognisable hairstyle and signature ponytail.
The airline captioned the image, “We’ve never looked more Norwegian,” while similar material was also shared across social media platforms.
Haaland’s legal action comes after an impressive World Cup campaign in which he scored seven goals as Norway reached the quarter-finals.
Norway defeated Brazil during their run before eventually being eliminated by England.
Haaland is currently with the Norwegian national team in Wales ahead of Thursday’s Nations League encounter between the two countries.
