Jadon Sancho remains without a club after his difficult Manchester United career ended during the summer.
The English winger initially established his reputation during an outstanding spell with Borussia Dortmund. His performances eventually convinced United to spend £73M on him in 2021.
However, Sancho struggled to reproduce that form consistently at Old Trafford. His relationship with Erik ten Hag subsequently deteriorated following a public disagreement in 2023.
United eventually allowed Sancho to leave on several temporary moves. He returned to Dortmund before later spending loan spells with Chelsea and Aston Villa.
His Manchester United contract expired at the end of June, making the 26-year-old a free agent.
Sancho has continued working on his fitness while searching for another club. A potential opportunity has now emerged away from English football.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Getafe have expressed interest in signing Sancho on a free transfer.
Manager Jose Bordalas considers the winger’s dribbling ability and versatility attractive qualities for his squad.
However, Sancho would need to reduce his wage demands before completing a move to the Spanish club.
Getafe are exploring ways to make the transfer financially possible while seeking additional creativity on the flanks.
Juanmi’s knee injury could potentially help them register another player. LaLiga regulations allow clubs to use a long-term injury exemption without breaching their salary limit.
Getafe have endured a difficult opening to their domestic campaign. They have recorded only two LaLiga victories and sit two points above the relegation zone.
However, the club have demonstrated ambition after qualifying for the Conference League. They also strengthened their squad by signing Dani Carvajal earlier this month.
Other potential destinations have disappeared for Sancho during recent months. Borussia Dortmund have ruled out bringing him back for a third spell.
Proposed moves involving Fiorentina, Roma and Palmeiras also failed to materialise. Getafe have consequently emerged as a potential destination for the former United winger.
Sancho’s salary expectations could now determine whether he completes a surprise move to LaLiga.
