The Club World Cup should have been a chance to flex strength. Instead, Real Madrid walked away with questions and disappointment.
PSG did not just beat them. They outplayed them, exposing weak points all over the pitch. One area, though, stood out more than the rest. And Xabi Alonso saw it clearly.
Arda Guler had shown flashes of his talent in earlier matches. The Turkish youngster is gifted, no doubt. But against the intensity of PSG, he struggled.
The midfield battle was lost early, and Real Madrid never really recovered.
It was not just one poor performance. It was a warning sign that while Guler is part of the future, the present still needs more experience and steel.
Xabi Alonso is not someone who waits around. Since stepping into the manager’s role, he has moved with purpose.
He has made changes, trusted youth, and kept the team pushing forward. But after this loss, he has made his most important request yet.
According to a Spanish source, Alonso has now asked the Real Madrid board to sign a top-class midfielder before the end of the window.
He sees this as essential. Alonso believes the team needs someone who can take control of big games.
The Spanish manager wants maturity, quality, and defensive awareness that the current squad lacks in the middle of the park.
Real Madrid have already added Álvaro Carreras to shore up the left flank. Now, midfield is next.
Florentino Perez has backed his managers before. But with the new season on the horizon and the weight of that PSG defeat still fresh, he must now act fast.
Real Madrid are entering a new era. But to win now, they will need one more piece and it must come from midfield.
Transfer News Live has already revealed that Real Madrid are showing interest in a PSG midfielder.
