It was a season to remember for Newcastle United in 2024/25.

After a 2-1 win against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley, Eddie Howe’s men ended a 70-year wait for silverware.

They also secured UEFA Champions League football for the 2025/26 season.

This came in the form of a fifth-place finish via the newly awarded extra spot in the tournament for Premier League teams.

After a season away, Newcastle are back in the Champions League and will be hoping to make amends for their group stage exit last time out.

They are looking to boost their squad depth in this upcoming season, whilst looking over their shoulders in fear of losing star striker Alexander Isak.

Anthony Elanga was announced as a Newcastle player yesterday, arriving for £55 million from Nottingham Forest.

Newcastle do not appear to be done there, with one Premier League goalkeeper linked with a move to St. James’ Park.

Newcastle United submit bid for Premier League goalkeeper

According to reports, Newcastle have submitted a £40 million bid for Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.

The future of current number Nick Pope is far from certain and Trafford, 22, is said to be keen on the move.

This transfer would come as a blow to Burnley fans, with Trafford a key part of a team that conceded just 16 goals all season and levelled an all-time record for clean sheets in any EFL season.

They also went 12 games straight without conceding , one that gathered momentum after Trafford’s bet with Burnley owner and former NFL player JJ Watt.

For Newcastle, they get a young goalkeeper who burst onto the scene after an impressive Under 21-Championship with England where they conceded zero goals and he saved a late penalty during the 1-0 final win.

Whilst untested at the Premier League level, with just one season in England’s top flight, it looks as though he may now get his chance to truly prove himself both domestically and in Europe.
