After an eighth-place finish in 2023/24, Roberto de Zerbi did quite the job during his first season at Olympique de Marseille.
The former Brighton and Hove Albion manager was able to guide the nine-time Ligue 1 champions to second place in 2024/25.
Their league position will also see them return to the Champions League this season.
Whilst there was a 19-point gap between them and Paris-Saint Germain, this is still an impressive jump in the table.
However, with the exception of Mason Greenwood, no other player scored more than 10 goals for the club in all competitions.
Amine Gouiri scored 10 goals in 14 appearances.
Luis Henrique scored just nine times in 31 games.
Neal Maupay only mustered up a measly four goals in 24 appearances.
PSG are only getting stronger; with no signs any team will even come close to them in the 2025/26 Ligue 1 season.
The target will be finishing in the top three in the table, if they want to make it back-to-back Champions League campaigns.
Despite finishing second, there was only five points between Marseille and fifth place Lille.
They also only own six of their final 12 games in the league.
The teams around Marseille in the table will be aiming to gain an advantage over them in the league next season.
AS Monaco have signed Eric Dier, Ans Fati (on loan) and Paul Pogba without spending a penny.
RC Strasbourg have spent €42.5 million on arrivals this summer and Lille have signed experienced striker Olivier Giroud.
Marseille have had to act on this.
They made the loan moves of Jonathan Rowe, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Neal Maupay permanent, for the combined fee of €32 million.
They may now be bringing a former player back to the club.
Olympique de Marseille in talks to re-sign former forward
According to reports, talks have begun between Marseille and former striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The former AC Milan, Saint-Étienne, Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal and Barcelona striker arrived at Marseille in July 2023.
He signed on a three-year deal after his contract was terminated at Chelsea.
During his one season at the club, he scored 30 goals across 51 games in all competitions.
He earned Ligue 1 Player of the Month in December 2023 and become the UEFA Europa League’s top goal scorer of all-time whilst wearing a Marseille shirt.
After a season in the Saudi Pro League, a return to France appears on the cards for the Gabon international.
