Chelsea were on a high this summer after securing the FIFA Club World Cup.
Their 3-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the New York final came just months after their UEFA Conference League final success against Real Betis.
This has led to many believing that Chelsea could challenge for a Premier League title this season after a fourth place finish last time out.
Chances of winning their first Premier League title since 2017 have been rocked by the news of Levi Colwill’s ACL injury, one that could keep him out for the entire campaign.
Colwill impressed on loan with Brighton and Hove Albion back in the 2022/23 season.
The South Coast side made a £30 million bid for Colwill to join permanently but this was turned down by then Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Two months later and Colwill signed a six-year deal with Chelsea and he has gone on to make 75 appearances across the two seasons that have followed.
Despite this, manager Enzo Maresca is reportedly not considering a new defensive addition to the squad.
There may even be one defender that the Blues let go of.
Chelsea defender up for sale despite Levi Colwill injury
According to reports, despite the injury to Colwill, Chelsea are considering defender Renato Veiga up for sale.
The 22-year-old signed for the Blues for a fee of £12 million one year ago.
Since joining, he has made 18 appearances, scoring two and assisting one.
Only seven of these came in the Premier League, with a total of 176 minutes played in the competition.
He was loaned out to Serie A side Juventus in January and made 13 league appearances for the Turin outfit.
His time at the club appears to be over before it ever really begun.
