Last weekend, Villarreal got their 25/26 season off to the perfect start with a 2-0 win at home to Real Oviedo.
Despite this win, it has been a difficult summer for the Yellow Submarine.
Creative fulcrum Alejandro Baena joined Atletico Madrid, whilst striker Thierno Barry joined Everton.
So, as you can imagine – there is a pot of money for Marcelino’s side to spend.
It looks like they’re about to do just that.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Villarreal are set to sign Chelsea defender Renato Veiga.
He states that a deal has been struck for a 29.5 million Euros package, and a heavy sell-on clause.
This deal is a club record for Villarreal, so it is clear that they must rate Veiga very highly indeed.
Last season, the defender featured in seven Premier League games – but started just one – in the first half of the season.
In January, he joined Juventus on loan, where he impressed throughout.
The 22-year old featured in the UEFA Nations League final for Portugal in June, as they beat Spain on penalties.
With the World Cup taking place next year, he will be wanting to play regularly to get his name into the starting XI.
Meanwhile, Chelsea once again make a profit – having signed Veiga for just under £12m a year ago.
This feels like another transfer that suits all parties concerned. A big talent for sure.
