The Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules have been much discussed since their introduction in the 2015/16 season.
Fans have voiced their frustrations at the rules, with clubs like Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea allowed to spend millions but other clubs not allowed to spend as much.
Newcastle United have been the most talked about team affected, with restrictions on player signings.
This is despite the club boasting one of the richest owners in the Premier League, with an estimated combined net worth of over $620 billion.
However, there are more clubs that aren’t in the traditional “Big Six” that are being affected.
One of those clubs have been affected this summer, despite an estimated combined net worth of over $10 billion for their owners.
Premier League legend voices concern for PSR affect on club
Speaking on Match of the Day, Premier League -all-time top scorer Alan Shearer has voiced his concerns for Aston Villa.
Villa have struggled to bring players in this summer, with striker Evann Guessand ($30 million) their only headline summer signing.
They have also seen academy product Jacob Ramsey sold to Newcastle.
Shearer, who scored 260 Premier League goals across spells with Southampton, Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United, spoke after the club once again failed to score.
The club fell to a 1-0 defeat to Brentford, making it one point from their first six available.
Shearer went on to say that PSR was “not meant for clubs like Villa.”
“I’ve said before that the PSR situation doesn’t sit well with me in terms of what they can and can’t spend.
“I mean, Unai Emery has had six transfer windows as Villa manager and they’ve made a profit of £10m.
“Obviously salaries are hampering them too because I don’t think PSR was brought in for this situation, for the likes of Aston Villa when they’ve clearly got owners who have got the money for the club to be ambitious.
“So it’s a really difficult situation for them to be in, but they looked blunt today, so they need a little bit of help in certain positions. 17 shots today, but only two on target.”
