This would be quite something

Although the Alexander Isak saga continues to be a slow burner, Newcastle United have been busy elsewhere.

Last week, they confirmed the signing of Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa.

Meanwhile it has today been reported that they are set to sign Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart.

The latter could begin the dominos that allows Isak to finally move to Liverpool.

They have also made the signings of Aaron Ramsdale, Anthony Elanga and Malick Thiaw this summer.

However, they are not done there.

According to Jose Alvarez on El Chiringuito, Newcastle United want to sign Fermin Lopez from Barcelona.

He states that they would be willing to pay 100 million Euros for the midfielder, and quadruple his current salary.

Furthermore, he states that Spurs have also joined the race for the player.

The midfielder has also been linked with a move to Chelsea in recent days.

This would be quite the statement from Newcastle if true. You’d think a deal wouldn’t cost quite 100 million Euros, but it will definitely be a lot of money.

Perhaps Newcastle know they will get the Isak money this window and are already preparing to spend the money.

As for Lopez himself, he would be an incredible signing for Eddie Howe’s side.

He has the physicality and robustness that Newcastle love to play with, especially in midfield.

Whilst he would also be able to contribute plenty of goals – which will certainly be needed should Isak depart.

A very out of the blue link. Incredibly interesting.

Should the report be correct regarding his wages, plus no doubt more game time, it could be too good to refuse for Lopez.

Particularly in a World Cup year.

If a move happens, Lopez will play Barcelona not long after leaving, with Newcastle and Barcelona drawing each other in the league phase of the Champions League.
