Although the Trendyol Super Lig transfer window does not close for a while yet, several Turkish clubs have been busy.
Fenerbahce seem to be close to signing the likes of Ederson and Marco Asensio.
Whilst Galatasaray recently announced the signing of Wilfried Singo.
It looks like the defending champions are not done there, either.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Galatasaray have agreed a deal with Manchester City to sign Ilkay Gundogan.
He reports that they are still waiting for the player’s approval on a two year contract.
Although he was born and raised in Germany, Gundogan was born to Turkish parents.
So you can see why playing in his family’s homeland would be an attractive proposition t0 him.
Particularly for a club as big as Galatasaray. He would also still get to play Champions League football.
With signings like Singo, Leroy Sane and Victor Osimhen, they have clearly shown just how ambitious they are.
Not only are Turkish clubs signing players in their 30’s, they are also signing players in their prime.
Even if Gundogan fits into the former category.
Despite his age, this would be a very good signing for Galatasaray.
There would be a chance for Gundogan to get a proper farewell too – as they face City in their final game in the league phase of the Champions League.
Another exciting signing for Turkish football, should the player accept the move.
